The follow-up series has officially begun production, with a teaser clip introducing the new cast members and the first episode's apt – if quite the mouthful– title, Here We Woe Again.

Of course, Jenna Ortega is back at the helm of the Netflix hit series, and this time around, she'll be joined by the likes of Joanna Lumley, Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper.

Most of the characters who managed to hold on to their innards in season 1 will be back (sadly, that rules out Gwendoline Christie and Riki Lindhome), while actors Percy Hynes White and Naomi J Ogawa won't be back as Nevermore students Xavier Thorpe and Yoko Takani.

One cast member whose future in the series is uncertain is Christina Ricci. The actress wasn't in the official season 2 cast list, but it's possible she could appear in a cameo role.

Ricci will no longer be the only original cast member from the '90s Addams movies to appear in Tim Burton's adaptation, however, as Christopher Lloyd – who played Uncle Fester in the beloved films – will have a guest role in season 2.

Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams

Who is Wednesday Addams? Wednesday is a teenage girl and a member of the macabre Addams Family. She is known for her deadpan sense of humour and morbid hobbies, which have previously included making life hell for her younger brother. Season 1 saw her move to a boarding school and attempt to catch a mysterious killer stalking its student population.

Talking exclusively with RadioTimes.com about what it was like working with Ricci on the series, Ortega said: "It was really interesting.

"It definitely was a bit nerve-wracking at first. You don’t want to feel like you’re doing the knock off version of her performance right in front of her. You want to make it clear that your character is your own."

She continued: "I think we approached it in a really cool manner because we never spoke about it. We just spoke about each other and got to know each other and kind of ignored it. That was a great relief and I think it was a smart decision."

It's unclear season 2 holds for the character, but we expect more sleuthing and, hopefully, more dancing too.

What else has Jenna Ortega been in? Ortega rose to fame in critically acclaimed comedy-drama Jane the Virgin, where she played a younger version of Gina Rodriguez's title character. Since then, she has become a favourite of horror fans for her roles in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, X and 2022's Scream reboot. She has also lent her voice to animated shows Elena of Avalor and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.

Luis Guzmán plays Gomez Addams

Who is Gomez Addams? Gomez is the patriarch of the family.

What else has Luis Guzmán been in? Guzman's most famous film projects include Traffic, where he co-starred with Wednesday's Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love. He is also known for prison drama Oz, medical series Code Black and a memorable cameo in sitcom Community.

Isaac Ordonez plays Pugsley Addams

Who is Pugsley Addams? Wednesday’s younger brother, who is often the subject of her cruel experiments.

What else has Isaac Ordonez starred in? Ordonez is best known for his roles in 2018's A Wrinkle in Time as Charles Wallace Double.

Hunter Doohan plays Tyler Galpin

Who is Tyler Galpin? Tyler is Sheriff Donovan's son. He befriended Wednesday in season 1 and becomes one of her love interests before he is revealed to be a Hyde under the influence of Marilyn Thornhill. At the end of season 1, he was seen being transported to Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital.

What else has Hunter Doohan been in? Doohan has also appeared in the series Your Honour and Truth Be Told.

Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia Addams

Who is Morticia Addams? The matriarch of the family.

What else has Catherine Zeta-Jones been in? After starting her career on The Darling Buds of May, Zeta-Jones became an international superstar with roles in The Mask of Zorro, Entrapment, Traffic, Chicago, The Terminal and Ocean's Twelve. More recently, she has appeared in crime drama Prodigal Son, Feud: Bette and Joan and the feature film version of Dad's Army.

Emma Myers plays Enid Sinclair

Who is Enid Sinclair? Enid is the girl that Wednesday is forced to share a room with, something she at first finds difficult due to their clashing personalities. She enjoys bright, colourful and joyful expression, which is not necessarily what you'd expect from a werewolf. By the end of season 1, however, the pair become close friends.

What else has Emma Myers been in? Myers starred in chilling Lifetime Channel original film Girl in the Basement as well as festive flick Christmas Romance Al Dente.

Billie Piper plays Capri

Who is Capri? Not much is known about the character of Capri at this stage, but we'll update this page as soon as more details are released.

What else has Billie Piper been in? Piper has had a prolific career in TV since first playing the iconic role of Rose Tyler in Doctor Who in 2005. Following her stint on the long-running sci-fi, she starred in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and has since had roles in the likes of Penny Dreadful and I Hate Suzie, for which she co-created alongside
Lucy Prebble and which earned her BAFTA nomination for Best Actress.

Steve Buscemi plays Barry Dort

Who is Barry Dort? As is the case with newly announced character Capri, it's unclear who Barry Dort is and how he may interact with Wednesday at this stage.

What else has Steve Buscemi been in? Buscemi has had a long and storied career in film and TV that includes collaborations with directors such as Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction) and the Coen Brothers (Miller's Crossing, Fargo and The Big Lebowski).

He has also appeared in action blockbusters Con Air, 28 Days and The Island. His TV work includes portraying Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, as well as recurring roles in The Sopranos, 30 Rock and Miracle Workers.

Thandiwe Newton as Dr Fairburn

Who is Dr Fairbun? As with all the other newly announced roles, not much is known about Dr Fairborn, but the name suggests she'll be a doctor. What kind remains to be seen, however, though it's possible she'll take over as Wednesday's therapist following Dr Kinbott's grizzly death last season.

What else has Thandiwe Newton been in? Newton has had roles in several blockbuster franchises including Mission Impossible and Star Wars. She played Roz Huntley in Line of Duty (2017) and starred in Westworld from 2016 to 2022. Other credits include The Chronicles of Riddick, The Pursuit of Happiness, Run Fatboy Run and 2012.

Joanna Lumley as Grandmama

Who is Grandmama? Wednesday's grandmother, who we expect will be just as eccentric as the rest of the Addams clan.

What else has Joanna Lumley been in? Lumley rose to fame after starring as Patsy Stone in hit BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2012). Since then, Lumley has appeared in a series of films, including Ella Enchanted alongside Anne Hathaway and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. Wednesday marks her second collaboration with Tim Burton. The first was a voice acting role in his 2005 stop-motion animated musical Corpse Bride.

Joy Sunday plays Bianca Barclay

Who is Bianca Barclay? Barclay is another of the supernatural students attending Nevermore. She has the power of a siren, meaning she can lure people with her voice, typically to their doom.

What else has Joy Sunday been in? Sunday has previously appeared in Channing Tatum comedy-drama Dog and Netflix high school drama Dear White People.

Fred Armisen plays Uncle Fester

Who is Uncle Fester? In the 1960s TV show, Fester was Morticia's uncle, but he was revamped as Gómez's long lost brother in the '90s films where he developed the power to conduct electricity after he was struck by lightning. It's this later version that appears to have inspired Wednesday's Uncle Fester, who came to the aid of the title character over the course of her investigation in season 1, and who is likely to do so again in season 2.

What else has Fred Armisen starred in?Armisen rose to prominence in sketch show Saturday Night Live, which embedded him as a key player in the American comedy scene. He has appeared in numerous major sitcoms including 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He will voice Cranky Kong in the upcoming Super Mario Bros animated movie.

Jamie McShane plays Sheriff Donovan Galpin

Who is Sheriff Donovan Galpin? Sheriff Galpin is a member of local law enforcement, who holds some disdain for the troublesome Addams family.

What else has Jamie McShane been in? McShane recently appeared in fellow Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, while he also had a small role in acclaimed 2020 biopic Mank.

George Burcea plays Lurch

Who is Lurch? The family’s servant.

What else has George Burcea starred in? Burcea has previously starred in Comrade Detective and Dawn of Night.

Moosa Mostafa plays Eugene Otinger

Who is Eugene Otinger? A student who attends Nevermore Academy alongside Wednesday Addams and who has the power to control bees.

What else has Moosa Mostafa been in? Mostafa also appeared in the film Nativity Rocks! and the show The Last Bus.

Victor Dorobantu plays Thing

Who is Thing? Thing is a disembodied hand who performs various things for the family.

What else has Victor Dorobantu starred in? Wednesday will be Dorobantu's TV debut.

Who else is starring in Wednesday season 2?

There are plenty of other famous faces joining the cast for season 2, thought their roles have yet to be disclosed.

Most notably, among them is Addams Family actor Christopher Lloyd. Lloyd played Uncle Fester in 1991's The Addams Family and its sequel, Addams Family values.

He will be joined by Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale), Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue), Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method, Somebody I Used to Know), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries, Scream), and Joonas Suotamowill.

Christina Ricci plays Marilyn Thornhill

Who is Marilyn Thornhill? Marilyn was a new addition to the Addams Family mythos. She was the botanical sciences teacher at Nevermore Academy and Wednesday and Enid's 'dorm mom' before she was revealed to be the series' main antagonist, hellbent on destroying outcasts.

What else has Christina Ricci been in? Ricci's casting is a nod to the early years of her acting career, when she played the role of Wednesday in 1991's The Addams Family and its sequel. She went on to star in a number of other major films including Sleepy Hollow, Monster and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. On the small screen, she starred opposite Margot Robbie in Pan Am, portrayed the titular role in The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, and currently plays Misty Quigley in Yellowjackets.

Gwendoline Christie plays Larissa Weems

Who is Larissa Weems? Larissa WAS the principal of Nevermore Academy, the boarding school for unusual children that Wednesday attends. She also had a long history with her mother, Morticia Addams. She was poisoned by Marilyn Thornhill.

What else has Gwendoline Christie starred in? Christie rose to fame in the cast of fantasy drama Game of Thrones, where she played noble warrior Brienne of Tarth. She later bagged a role in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as First Order operative Captain Phasma. Other film and TV credits include The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, The Personal History of David Copperfield and Top of the Lake: China Girl. More recently she appeared as Lucifer in Netflix's live-action adaptation of The Sandman.

Riki Lindhome plays Dr Valerie Kinbott

Who is Dr Valerie Kinbott? Valerie was a therapist who attempted to help Wednesday following her enrolment at Nevermore. She was mauled to death by the Hyde.

What else has Riki Lindhome been in? Lindhome is known primarily for comedy roles in Gilmore Girls, The Big Bang Theory and Enlightened, as well as being one half of the double-act Garfunkel and Oates. She voiced Poison Ivy in The Lego Batman Movie and played Donna in murder-mystery Knives Out.

Percy Hynes White plays Xavier Thorpe

Who is Xavier Thorpe? Xavier is another Nevermore student that Wednesday encounters during her time at the school.

What else has Percy Hynes White been in? White is best known for his television roles in X-Men spin-off The Gifted, Jordan Peele's The Twilight Zone and crime drama Murdoch Mysteries.

Naomi J Ogawa plays Yoko Tanaka

Who is Yoko Tanaka? A vampire who attends Nevermore Academy along with Wednesday Addams.
